Storytime Bingo
Introduction
There’s something sweet about the baby books we all grew up with. Whether it’s 'Goodnight Moon,' 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar,' or that one about the llama in pajamas everyone’s got a favorite. Storytime Bingo takes that bookish nostalgia and turns it into an easy, relaxing baby shower game. Instead of numbers, the Bingo cards are filled with baby book titles, cute reading moments, or things you might hear during storytime with a little one. It’s calm, it’s simple, and it’s a nice break between all the loud games and snacks. Perfect for guests who want something chill to do while still being part of the fun.
What You’ll Need
- Custom Bingo cards filled with children’s book titles or storytime phrases (you can print them or use an online generator)
- A caller sheet or slips of paper with matching titles/phrases to draw from
- Pens or Bingo daubers or get cute with stickers or stamps
- Small prizes for winners books, bookmarks, treats, anything fun
- Optional: a display table of baby books where guests can browse or bring their own favorites to gift
How to Play
- Hand out one Bingo card and something to mark spaces with to each guest. Explain that instead of numbers, you’ll be calling out baby book titles or cute storytime things (like 'crinkly page,' 'dad falls asleep reading,' or 'reading the same book five times in a row').
- As the host or a helper draws from the pile and reads them out, guests mark the matching square on their cards.
- Play until someone gets a full line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) and yells ‘Bingo!’ Then give them a small prize or let them pick from a prize basket.
- You can keep playing for second and third place, or clear the boards and start fresh for another round.
Fun Variations
Theme the cards make one round all about bedtime books, another about animal-themed books, etc.
Include a free space in the center labeled ‘Nap Time’ or ‘Board Book Zone’ for extra laughs
Let guests personalize one square before the game starts with their own favorite childhood book title
Instead of reading aloud, show book covers on a screen or board and play ‘visual Bingo’
Make a rule that winners have to share a memory about the book they won with
Why Guests Love It
- It’s mellow and nostalgic a nice pause between active games
- Everyone recognizes at least a few of the books or phrases, even if they’re not parents
- It gets people thinking about the kinds of stories they’ll want to read to the baby
- It doubles as a little book recommendation session people often leave with a few new titles to look up
Conclusion
Storytime Bingo is like a warm cup of tea in the middle of a party easy, cozy, and full of little happy memories. It’s a game that brings generations together, whether they read to their own kids years ago or just remember being read to themselves. Plus, it’s a great way to quietly build up baby’s first library one square, one story, one laugh at a time.
